About
My name is Neal Enssle. I like to write computer programs.
In my free time I’m the Director of Technology for Foraker, a small-but-growing web development shop in Boulder, Colorado where I help build applications using lots of Ruby on Rails, some ColdFusion, a smattering of Java, more SQL than generally is recommended, and the odd bit of creative JavaScript. At the moment I’m managing a team of a half dozen or so of the best web application developers in Colorado, and having a great time building custom web applications for clients in a variety of industries. I write the occasional blog post for Foraker, too.
You can follow me on Twitter or Facebook, if you’re so inclined. My resume is rather out-of-date, so check out my (rather more current) profile on LinkedIn.
I enjoy quotations, and maintain codequotes.com — a site devoted to quotes about programming, technology, and geek life. And, of course, you can follow codequotes on Twitter.
Devoted husband of Tara. Father of darling Anna Rose and charming Noah Jackson. Guardian of Max. You can read more about the family on our blog (though these days it’s best to follow us on Facebook).
I’ve loved computers ever since the fourth grade when my parents bought a TRS-80 and I taught myself BASIC. At one point, however, I took some time off to become a historian. I graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota in 1995 with a Bachelor’s degree in History, and followed that up with a Master’s degree in Modern European History at the University of Chicago in 1997. I left the doctoral program at Chicago when I realized that I was spending more time in the computer lab than in the library, and that I was much more passionate about building the Department of History’s web page than I was reading about a bunch of dead guys.
Right now I’m working on my second Master’s (in Software Engineering) via Regis University in Denver. In my free time.
