I’m a passionate programmer and technical manager with more than 10 years of experience in web applications development and project leadership.

I enjoy hands-on design and development of dynamic, database-driven web applications and mission-critical enterprise systems using Ruby on Rails, ColdFusion, Java, SQL, XML, JavaScript, CSS, and Ajax. I think about programming a lot, and program every chance I get.

An effective communicator with an entrepreneurial approach to building cross-organizational consensus (translation: I’m the rare geek who’s willing to get up and go talk to people), I’ve been leading development teams for more than six years, with experience coordinating both day-to-day and strategic software development operations.

Currently, I’m the Director of Technology for Foraker Labs, a small-but-growing web development shop in Boulder, Colorado where I help build applications using Ruby on Rails, ColdFusion, Java, SQL, and the odd bit of creative JavaScript. At the moment I’m managing a team of a half dozen or so of the best web application developers in Colorado, and having a great time building custom web applications for clients in a variety of industries.

My professional interests include finding constructive ways to encourage developers to “talk about code”, including how to create a dialogue around clean code and refactoring techniques using tools such as code reviews, pair programming, TDD, brown bag sessions, and one-on-one mentoring. Check out my Reading page to find some reviews of books I’ve learned a lot from recently.

The best place to start if you’d like to see my resume is to check out my profile on LinkedIn. I’m using LinkedIn to generate a copy of my resume when folks really insist on having a dead-tree version.

You can also follow me on Twitter if you’re so inclined — most of my tweets are related to the craft of programming. I also post the occasional professional article on Foraker’s blog as well.
